Partial Composting for Biodrying Organic Materials - FSA1055

چکیده

Biodrying, as the name implies, is a drying technique that relies on biological activities of microorganisms, bacteria and fungi to reduce the mois ture content of wet biomaterial waste. The drying effect is achieved because of the microbial activity as well as forced aeration. As the microorgan isms feed on the nutrients, carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and other elements a vailable in the waste, heat is pro duced as part of the metabolic activi ties. This heat, assisted by air, is used to evaporate the excess moisture.

Inactivation of Ascaris suum in a biodrying compost system.

Pathogen contamination of waterways is a serious concern in dairy farming areas where livestock waste is applied to agricultural fields. As an alternative, a biodrying composting system dries collected livestock waste, reduces the strong odors, and has been proposed as a means of reducing, and even eliminating pathogens present in the waste. Therefore, the survival of pathogens in a biodrying c...

Biodrying for mechanical-biological treatment of wastes: a review of process science and engineering.

Biodrying is a variation of aerobic decomposition, used within mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) plants to dry and partially stabilise residual municipal waste. Biodrying MBT plants can produce a high quality solid recovered fuel (SRF), high in biomass content. Here, process objectives, operating principles, reactor designs, parameters for process monitoring and control, and their effect on...

Bioremediation of heavy metals and organic toxicants by composting.

Hazardous organic and metallic residues or by-products can enter into plants, soils, and sediments from processes associated with domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial, and military activities. Handling, ingestion, application to land or other distributions of the contaminated materials into the environment might render harm to humans, livestock, wildlife, crops, or native plants. Consi...

A Summary of the Ghg Implications of Composting

1. A SUMMARY OF THE GHG IMPLICATIONS OF COMPOSTING During composting, microbial decomposition aerobically transforms organic substrates into a stable, humus-like material (Brown and Subler, 2007). Although small-scale composting, such as backyard composting, occurs across the United States, WARM models composting only in central composting facilities with windrow piles because data for small-sc...

Persistence and Degradation of Pesticides in Composting

Introduction Composting is a process in which microorganisms rapidly consume organic matter, using it as an energy source and converting it into carbon dioxide, water, microbial biomass, heat and compost. Feedstock used to fuel the composting process may originate from a number of different sources, including yard trimmings, manure, biosolids, and agricultural residues. These materials may cont...
